SAIC Art Education

Critical. Meaningful. Transformative.

BFA/AE

The undergraduate art education program at SAIC prepares students to become critical teachers of visual culture while fulfilling the requirements for the State of Illinois Type 10 Special (K-12) Visual Arts Teaching Certificate. The program advances critical citizenship in public schools by enabling teachers and their students to construct meaning and connect knowledge through inquiry and production of visual culture.

Admission to the BFA program at SAIC is a prerequisite to the undergraduate art education program (BFA/AE). Once students enter the art education program they usually complete the program in three semesters. Students must submit a departmental application the semester before entering the program. The three semesters include coursework in remaining studio, art history, liberal arts electives, and professional education.
