Teacher candidates must pass the ICTS Test of Academic Proficiency (#400) or the Visual Arts Content Area Test (#145), and the K-12 Assessment of Professional Teaching Test (#104) in order to obtain initial certification.
Information and on-line registration for all tests may be found at: www.ilts.nesinc.com.
When You Should Take These Tests
The ICTS Test of Academic Proficiency (#400) should be taken and passed before the first semester of the Art Education program. Act plus writing and SAT scores may be used in lieu of TAP scores. Contact the Licensure Specialist for more details.
The Visual Arts Content Area Test (#145) needs to be taken and passed before November 1st of each calendar year. Candidates will not be allowed to register for Apprentice Teaching without a passing score.
The K-12 Assessment of Professional Teaching Test (APT 104) is to be taken while enrolled in the Apprentice Teaching class. Some teacher candidates prefer to take the APT test at the very end of or after Apprentice Teaching. This is fine. However, we would like to stress that passing the APT test is a requirement for the completion of SAIC's Art Education program. You will not be able to apply for your teaching certificate unless you have taken and passed all three tests.
2013 Test Dates
